The 2006-2007 Season Ushers in Some Exciting News!

Artistic Director and Philharmonic Conductor, Olivia Gutoff, announced at the Annual Meeting of the general membership of MCYO that Margaret Makris has pledged a $50,000 endowment in memory of her husband, composer Andreas Makris.  Mr. Makris had been commissioned to write a piece, entitled Antithesis, for MCYO’s 50th anniversary concert.  Rostropovich commissioned more works from Makris than from any other composer. “In my opinion, Makris is a great composer,” Rostropovich remarked in 1978. The purpose of the endowment is to provide continuing support to MCYO’s scholarship programs.
